The original sash windows and Georgian panelling in this Mill Street drawing room had suffered from thirty years of heavy-handed oil paint accumulation. The wood was suffocating, and the sash cords were completely painted shut.
Our task was to fully strip back to bare timber without damaging the fragile 18th-century pine profile, restoring structural integrity before applying a drop of color.
Using gentle, low-temperature infrared heat, we stripped back seven layers of historic lead and modern gloss paint. Next came 24 hours of dustless sanding using our specialized Festool systems to guarantee a perfectly smooth, flat substrate.
We stabilized the lime plaster walls, applied two coats of traditional water-based primer, and rebuilt the damaged sash detailing with high-performance timber resin.
The final layer is a breathable, ultra-matte emulsion from Farrow & Ball (Card Room Green) offset by Estate Eggshell on the newly operational sash windows and deep classic skirting boards.
The light now catches the hand-painted brush details beautifully, maintaining the historical character while offering modern, durable protection.
"The level of documentation Sash & Skirting provided was incredible. We actually watched our sash windows being rebuilt frame-by-frame."

St. Mary’s cottage is historic Warwick at its best: timber framing, sloping floors, and highly delicate lime plaster. Standard vinyl paints had been applied previously, trapping moisture and causing severe bubbling and peeling along the lower oak joints.
We systematically peeled away the non-breathable vinyl layer to let the structure breathe. Areas of blown lime plaster were carefully repaired using traditional horsehair and lime-wash stabilization, ensuring zero chemical clash with the oak frames.
Finished entirely in Little Greene’s Distemper—a highly breathable, traditional finish that allows moisture to pass freely. The shade 'Slaked Lime' offers a beautifully chalky, historic texture that highlights the dark oak timbers instead of fighting them.
"They respected the age of our home. They understood that Elizabethan oak shouldn't be sealed in modern plastic."

Cabinetry, libraries, and deep Victorian skirting boards painted to a hand-brushed finish that mimics traditional craftsmanship without brush marks or paint runs.
We use premium Festool sanders integrated directly with HEPA-certified extractors. This extracts 99.9% of dust particles right at the source, protecting your furnishings, electronics, and lungs from toxic paint particles.
Before any paint touches your historic walls, we map the moisture level of your plaster and timber. Painting over trapped moisture is the #1 cause of paint failure. We solve the damp before we apply the coat.
